A collaboration with ArtEZ Academy of Music and Trendbureau Overijssel
Behind Closed Doors
Staying home as long as possible,
even when people need support
in order to do this.
This is a desire that’s widely supported in the [province of Overijssel] policy behind healthcare in the home. A policy that tries to aim towards the organisation of help and care that contributes to the realisation of said desire.
In reality, this help and care is provided by paid, formal healthcare workers, and unpaid, informal care workers - of whom some received formalisation.

Behind Closed Doors was an intercultural collaboration between ArtEZ Academy of Music, Trendbureau Overijssel, and the following artists - who currently (2024) study at ArtEZ:
David Hayne (that’s me)
φili naturä
Jetske Iedema
Juno S Kay
Karkinos
Kia Kahor
Raoumi_ite
The project was concluded and released in 2024.
Trendbureau Overijssel contacted ArtEZ and ended up getting in touch with the faculty of The Sound of Innovation. They asked us as artists, professionalising through this Master’s Study, to ‘make the listener empathise with healthcare work in the personal home’.
This resulted in Behind Closed Doors, an ‘album of the future’: songs, soundscapes and interviews that take the listener on a journey about informal healthcare in the province of Overijssel, The Netherlands.
It was realised after extensive research, interviews with informal care-workers, patients and paid professionals.
